News from the Director

Well

Welcome!

This week in our classrooms …

We are all settled in to our school routines and we are having a wonderful time learning and playing together. We are well underway with our weekly sound themes, presenting a new letter every week or so. We use a variety of auditory, visual and tactile language games, as well as books, bulletin board visuals and songs related to reinforce the sound themes. We place books appropriate to the previous sound theme in the book nook for follow-up reinforcement and as a reading-readiness incentive. Whenever possible, we extend the sound theme, via a whole-language approach, to other appropriate areas of our curriculum- foods, art projects, science/social studies, puzzles, activities, circle-time and in-depth teaching.

Well, it is hard to believe, but we’ve come to the last two weeks of our school year. We are finishing up with Y and Z.  The letter “Yy” is  pronounced as “y(uh)y(uh)” with as little vowel accompaniment as possible, as in “yes”, “yak”, “year”……. We are learning how to use a yo-yo, learning the differences between young and old plus much more. We are reading books, to name a few – “The Yak Who Yelled Yuck “, “Yummy, Yummy”, “Yoko” and we are singing great songs – “Months of the Year”, “I’m Gonna Catch You” and we are practicing our songs for the end of the year performance everyday!! The letter “Zz” is pronounced as a continuant, same placement and formation as “s” except with a voice: “zzz” as in “zip”, “zoo”, “zero” ……….. We are reading books, to name a few – “Zack the Lazy Zebra”, “Zoodles”, “The Z was Zapped”, “Dear Zoo” and we are singing great songs – “Going to the Zoo”, “Zip-a-dee-do-dah” and we are still practicing our songs for the end of the year performance. We are almost ready to sing on the stage!! Bring your tissues…..

Show-and tell,  the AM 3’s and the PM class may bring in something to share or talk about (related to the sound theme) any day of the week and the AM 4’s class may bring something in on Fridays.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel to contact the school!

Have a nice day…..
